Proprietor of top polo apparel and equipment brand, Casablanca, an investor in several deeply stylish businesses, including Del Toro shoes, and during his time as a fashion agent, the Stateside champion of the likes of Rubinacci and Inis Meain, Andrew Seibert has serious #menswear bona fides.

Here, this Greenwich, Connecticut-based men’s style impresario imparts some of the wisdom he’s picked up during his international sartorial adventures. 
 

10. “A white shirt, a dark navy suit, a solid navy knit tie; these things are perfect, whether on their own or together.”

9. “Sweats or athletic clothing are for the gym and home only. Unless you play football for Man United, dress like a gentleman when you leave the house.”

8. “Black tie is about dressing classic and letting your date shine. Let all eyes be on your gorgeous better half — no-one wants to see a colourful paisley cummerbund, you’ll look like you just came off stage from a lounge show in Las Vegas.”

7. “Quality over quantity any day of the week.”

6. “That being said, I think a man can never have too many ties. I save and archive my old ties. Even though I am not that old, it allows me to take a look through my taste over time as well as see what was en vogue — colours, widths, etc. It’s like my own little menswear history.”

5. “My father said every man needs a great watch and a great pen. Collector mentality for sure — but I can never remember my father without a Patek on his wrist or an Omas in his pocket, as he preferred to take things slow and write by hand.”

4. “A good tailor is paramount and should be on speed dial. Mine has pointed out a few times that I have gained weight when even my wife hadn’t noticed. Luckily, he is also the one person who can easily fix it!”

3. “Don’t make dressing overly formulaic or the fun is lost. The pocket square is the perfect example and should be treated with a ‘who the hell cares’ attitude. Let it sit as it falls, as a little imperfection or twist makes a man/person/outfit that much more interesting.”

2. “Everyone looks better with a tan.”

1. “And when all is said and done, be well groomed, it shows some discipline and that you care. In the end, a man can really do (and attract) a lot with a nice haircut, nice teeth, and a great smile.”
